Does It Matter How We Fight Hyper-Preterism?

March 9, 2010 16 comments

Ever since the recent split that occurred between those combating the doctrines of Hyper-Preterism, there has much talk in the air as to maintaining a neutral attitude towards those whose methods differ from our own.  I’ve been told several times that it doesn’t matter HOW one fights Hyper-Preterism, but that the method should be left up to each individual.  The reason for this stance is because since last year, Dr. Kenneth Talbot, president of Whitefield Seminary, has been (allegedly) engaging in a behind-the-scenes battle against Hyper-Preterism to prevent it from making serious headway in the church.  The strategic guidelines which he has been laying down have been deemed unacceptable by some (including myself), who feel that he is coddling Hyper-Preterists, and being unrealistic in his assessments.  Besides that, Talbot, instead of urging Christians to return to historic Christianity, has felt the need to invent an entirely new eschatology called “Realized Preterism” in order to deal with the problem of Hyper-Preterism.

Sam Frost On “Realized Preterism”

“Dr. Talbot told me he will be doing a series of lectures in his church on it in 2010, plus we are still on target for our debate-book. Realized Preterism…..I have some hunches, and have been right up to this point: the Second Coming BEGAN in A.D. 70. It will culminate in a postmillennial victory over the world in terms of culture and life, which, in turn, will bring about a manifestation of the perfection (resurrection) of all of life and a physical manifestation of the Lord – a culminative END to the Second Coming. It is something along those lines. I have picked this up from my talks with Talbot over burritoes….”

Attack Of The Compromisers

December 2, 2009 5 comments

Within the past couple months, alarming new developments have occurred among those opposed to the doctrines of Hyper-Preterism.  The compromising faction, led by a renowned seminary professor, is reportedly trying to synthesize Hyper-Preterism and orthodoxy into a new system of eschatology.  To this end, numerous concessions have been made, even to the extent that certain Hyper-Preterists have been allowed a place at the orthodox table.  The compromisers are now loading the conservative H.P.’s with flattery that smells like cheap perfume.  While the chief string-puller maintains an official position of orthodoxy, the step-n-fetch-its take all the heat.  The tactics of the compromising faction are sure to backfire, however.   Hyper-Preterists are not looking for ‘kudos’ and ‘props’ but for wholesale validation of their heresy.  They will not rest content until they are acknowledged as “brothers in Christ.”  Apprently, the string-pullers and tacticians don’t yet realize this.

The worse thing about this debacle, is that some of the foremost compromisers are assaulting those who choose to stand their ground.  Phil Naessens, a man who is somtimes thought to have bedded the H.P. cause, recently issued two scathing ‘exposures’ of apologist Roderick Edwards, a man whose knowledge of the H.P. movement and tactics is unequalled by any.  Naessens has sunk so low that he resorts to name-calling, while at the same time being ‘nice’ to Hyper-Preterists who started this whole controversy to begin with.  It is reported that Naessens was warned months ago, about flirting too much with Hyper-Preterists.  Folks, does not this seem much like alchol, drug use, or pornography?  A little flirtation often leads to much abuse.  And that seems to be what is happening with the compromising faction of anti- Hyper-Preterism!
