The Downfall Of Bryan Lewis

    I was just informed this morning that Bryan Lewis has become agnostic toward Christianity:

From his articles, it would appear that he now doubts the preservation of Scripture and the historicity of Christ. 

“As a result, after evaluating the data present by the world’s most credible scholars, I have followed along the lines of Dr. Daniel B Wallace, Dr. Bruce Metzger, Dr. David Parker, and Dr. Bart Ehrman, in that I NO LONGER believe in the Doctrine of the Preservation of Scripture. As Dr. Wallace has said, “I believe it has a poor biblical basis and is not defensible – exegetically or empirically.” Certainly, the data currently available to us, does NOT support it.”

 

“So am I a Christian or would I consider myself a Christian? The answer is not easy, so I guess it is up to you. I am certainly not within the bounds of accepted Christian Orthodoxy. Although, I do agree with many Christian beliefs, I am not in agreement with many of those considered to be critical to the Christian faith. As a result, I am certainly considered to be a heretic and unbeliever by many of Christianity’s Laity, Pastors, and some Christian Theologians. Do I Believe in God? Yes and pray to him too! Do I believe that Jesus was the Messiah, Prophesied in the Hebrew Bible, sent from God who died for my sins?  I have believed it all my life without much struggle until recently, because of my Academic commitments. With this in mind, at this time, the honest answer is: If I were to die today, given the Bible story is true, I believe, my sins are forgiven and my eternal future is secure. Of course, many will disagree, because of differing views of theology, that is fine. I can’t control who sends me to hell with their mind.”

  This is indeed saddening.  I remember corresponding with Lewis back in 2008, after I did a controversial 2-hour podcast with Jason Bradfield of RCM.  Lewis told me that if enough exegetical evidence was adduced against Hyper-Preterism, he might be persauded to leave. Well, we were supposed to talk about Hyper-Preterism, but we never did.  Bryan never gave orthodoxy a chance.  He continued, over the next 2 years, to go farther and farther afield in his views. I plan on contacting him again.  However, in the meantime I trust everyone will acknowledge that this is where Hyper-Preterism “logically” leads: D-O-U-B-T.

Our Most Ancient Faith

   Whenever I the use the expression “historical Christianity,” I do so with the belief that God has maintained the truth within His community of saints. The truth did not just “develop” as by evolution over a long process of centuries, but was handed down from the beginning by faithful apostles, successfully transmitted from generation to generation, and preserved in the ecumenical creeds of Christianity. Because I believe that God is sovereign, I conceive it as impossible that He should have allowed 2,000 years of Christian understanding to have been in error. And the evidence, seen on all sides, backs my belief. When I read Irenaeus, when I study Lactantius, when I peruse the writings of Cyprian and Cyril and St. Augustine, I find, not just bits and pieces of the truth, but complete systems of divinity which preserve the “faith delivered once for all to the saints” (Jude 3). The integrity of the Christian religion depends on such a view as this.  And if any one cannot see how a sovereign God could maintain the truth even against the corruptions and frailties of His own creatures, that one must be blind indeed..

RCM Censors The Anti-Preterist

In another attempt to suppress information relative to the heresy of Hyper-Preterism, anti-Christian thug Jason Bradfield censored a brief comment left by a Christian poster.  Thankfully, we grabbed a screen shot of the comment before it was deleted. 

Sam Frost Responds To Kelly Nelson Birks

  In the current dispute over the recent defrockment of Samuel Frost, numerous ‘responses’ and counter-responses have been bandied on both sides, but the end is nowhere in sight.  In a new RCM post ‘hot off the press,’ Samuel Frost demonstrates the bias of “Dr. Birks,”alleging that the defrockment is part a personal vendetta to discredit him. 

  Insiders believe that Birks’s maneuvers may be part of a scheme to vindicate his recent adoption of “Reformed Orthodoxy.”  It is rumored that Birks is now working hand in glove with a Reformed Seminary professor who has taken it upon himself to refute Hyper-Preterism.  Although the professor has only 6 months of hands-on experience, he believes that by clever strategy he will succeed in defeating the movement for once and for all.  Is Birks trying to brownnose his way into the professor’s regard by attacking his arch-rival Frost?  More details later, as the plot unfolds!
